Whether it's a vibrantly decorated kids' birthday cake or an elegantly tiered wedding cake, each customised creation from your preferred cake shop is designed to capture your imagination and delight the palate.
However, your cake’s journey doesn’t end at the delivery; proper storage is crucial to maintaining its freshness and taste. In this blog, you’ll find some of the best ways to store various types of celebration cakes, ensuring they remain as delightful as when they first emerged from the oven.
Before the Party
When you’re anticipating the delivery of your cake, it’s best to be prepared for its arrival. This means preparing the environment or container where your customised cake will be stored. Most cakes, such as those adorned with buttercream or fondant, like ours, must be kept in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
In Singapore’s humid climate, you must store the cake in the fridge for as long as possible prior to your party. Ideally, while the cake is being refrigerated, it should be kept in its original packaging in order to avoid the absorption of odours and prevent drying out from cold temperatures. This is also to ensure that the fondant decorations do not absorb excess humidity from the fridge.
During the Celebration
Generally, you should remove the cake from the fridge about 30 minutes before your intended cake-cutting time. This is crucial to enhancing the flavour and texture of the cake, making every bite a delight.
However, do note that buttercream and fondant cakes should not be left in an air-conditioned room for more than 1 to 2 hours. This is just a gauge, so keep an eye on the cake and monitor the surrounding temperature. If the fondant decorations begin drooping or the cream begins smudging, it is definitely time to gather your guests for the cake-cutting session!
Also, if your celebration is outdoors and during the day, only take your cake out of your refrigerator before cutting.
The cake decorations may include non-edible components such as toy figurines, dowels, or skewers. These are necessary for support and structuring. Be sure to remove your cake decorations before cutting your cake. We also do not recommend that fondant decorations be consumed, as there might be inedible support tools within them.
After the Celebration
You might wonder what to do with any leftover cake once the candles have been blown out and the songs sung. While proper storage of leftover cake ensures you can continue enjoying it in the days following the event, you might also wonder how long can the cake last in the fridge.
The answer is that our buttercream and fondant cakes may be stored (if kept refrigerated) for 2 to 3 days. For the best flavour and texture, we recommend removing the leftovers from the fridge 30 minutes before savouring them. Please note that refrigeration is necessary. Place the slices in an airtight cake container to keep them moist and fresh. Be sure to remove the cake decorations before storing your leftovers.
Whether you're saving a full-sized celebration cake or smaller treats like our mini bites for a special event, applying the right storage techniques is crucial for maintaining their exquisite taste and intricate designs.
Maintaining the Magic of Your Cake’s Freshness
The freshness of a cake is not solely dependent on how it's stored; it begins with the selection of high-quality ingredients and meticulous preparation. Using premium ingredients enhances the flavour and extends the shelf life, ensuring that each treat, from the daintiest cupcake to the grandest kids’ birthday cake in Singapore, maintains its taste and texture.
